It is our belief that prenatal care should be just that... care...based upon your needs as an individual.  Prenatal visits are unhurried; typically lasting 45 minutes each... some more, some less, depending on the mother's schedule and her needs that day.  Its your time to be nurtured, to ask questions, to learn, and to prepare for the birth of your baby physically, mentally and emotionally. We view the midwife/client relationship as a partnership and  strongly encourage open, honest communication of any questions or concerns you may have.

Since much of a midwife's focus is on prevention, careful monitoring of mother and baby along with in depth discussion are an essential part of each visit.  We'll palpate your baby's position together (there is nothing more delightful than finally being able to identify that little bump that keeps poking you in the ribs), measure your abdomen (fundal height), check your weight and listen to your baby's heart beat with either a hand held doppler or a fetoscope. We'll do a urine test to look for signs of toxemia, gestational diabetes and urinary tract infection and we'll closely monitor your blood pressure and vitals.  As with every facet of your care, labs, ultrasounds and tests are up to your discretion and we'll carefully discuss the benefits and any associated risks to help you make an informed decision that's right for you and your baby.  Should you choose to have blood work or labs done, we will do so during your prenatal visit (no need for a separate trip to the lab).  We'll work together to find ways to quickly resolve issues that may arise during your pregnancy with a goal of preventing minor discomforts from becoming problematic. Should you have a need for care beyond our expertise, we have a long list of competent, trusted practitioners, both holistic and allopathic to refer to.  We'll be on call 24 hours a day to answer questions and deal with concerns... no problem is too small and no concern is too "petty".
